International Sales Drive Alibaba’s 14% Increase in Sales

On Thursday, August 10, Alibaba, the biggest online retailer in China, announced a 14% increase in quarterly sales thanks to strong performance from its online marketplace Taobao and Tmall Group.

“We reported a very good quarter,” CEO Daniel Zhang said during the results call. After a few quarters of work in our global digital commerce business, we are happy to see that our efforts are bearing fruit since we can already see the seeds of success. And we have little doubt that this tendency will endure.

During the three months ended June 30, the firm, which has its headquarters in Hangzhou, China, recorded a 14% year-over-year growth in revenue to RMB234 billion ($32.3 billion).

Its two major businesses, Taobao and Tmall Group, had a 12% growth in sales to RMB114.95 billion ($16 billion).
